Dear Hidden Hills Families,
My name is Melodie Stibich and I am thrilled to be joining the Hidden Hills community as your new principal! I am so looking forward to getting to know each of you and your children. I would like to thank everyone for your extraordinary patience these past few weeks as the transition process unfolded. Moving from one school district to another mid-year required that our two districts strategically plan the timeline. Monday, March 3rd will be my first official day at Hidden Hills!
As I am sure that you must be very curious about my background and experience, I thought I would take this opportunity to share a little information about myself. In 1997, I moved to California from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. For the past 17 years, I have worked in the Castro Valley Unified School District. I began as a Special Day Class teacher at Castro Valley High School, and then moved to Jensen Ranch Elementary to teach Fifth Grade. I served in this role for eight years before becoming principal of Palomares Elementary. While at Palomares, I also worked as a Curriculum Coordinator at our District Office. After five amazing years in this capacity, I began a double-duty assignment as the principal of both Jensen Ranch and Palomares simultaneously. For the past two years, after our state and district budget improved, I was able to focus my attention solely on Jensen Ranch.
As you get to know me, you will see that I have very high expectations for myself. Having been the principal of two very high performing schools, both California Distinguished Schools and National Blue Ribbon Award winners, I understand the commitment that it takes for all students to reach their highest potential. I believe that every student can and will succeed if provided the right supports and opportunities to be challenged. I see it as my responsibility as the principal to oversee this process, guiding the staff and allocating the resources and supports to make it happen.
You will also soon discover that I am very much a believer in the power of collaboration. Whether between home and school, teacher to teacher, or parent to parent, we all work better, accomplish more, and feel more effective, when we set our sights on a common goal and pour all of our efforts into reaching our vision. My belief has always been that excellence is never an accident, and we can only get there if we work as a team. As part of this process, I have always maintained an open door policy and, even though I will not always be able to fix every problem or make every person happy, I will always take the time to listen and help problem-solve.
Lastly, you should know that while I take my role as principal very seriously, I also believe that school should be fun! I also know that the best schools are those where every single person feels valued, safe, and welcomed. It is my top priority to ensure that everyone who sets foot on our campus feels like part of the Hidden Hills Family. When we take the time to strategically plan, forge positive relationships, celebrate our achievements, and build on past successes, we can create a learning environment where everyone thrives.
Hidden Hills has developed a reputation for academic excellence; it is a place where exceptional teaching and learning is the norm. I am truly honored to have been selected as your new principal! I look forward to seeing you all bright and early on Monday, March 3rd.
