Message from Principal Stibich:

Dear Hidden Hills Families,

Thank you so much for making my first month here at Hidden Hills so phenomenal.  Over the past few weeks, I have been busy getting to know the staff, students, and parents that make up our school. I think I finally know my way around the campus, which is something to be proud of at this point!  If I have not officially met you yet, please feel free to stop by and introduce yourself!

Over the past month, among other things, I have had the pleasure of attending the Reflections Art awards ceremony, joined our 5th grade parents for a discussion about the transition to middle school, and helped organize our California Distinguished School validation visit.  I’ve also been in classrooms, not only observing some amazing teaching and learning, but getting a feel for how I can further support our teachers and students.

In an effort to reach out to our families and get to know the community a little better, I would like to invite all parents/guardians to a series of Meet and Greet events to be held the week of May 12th.  More information will follow as I work out the details.  I would love to see you all there!

That’s it for now, everyone!  I hope you have a wonderful week!

Melodie Stibich

Hidden Hills Principal

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Hidden Hills Hawks Fund Parent Survey: We need your help!

Dear HH Parents, be on the look out for a HH parent survey from our Hawks Fund.  The sender line will show:  survey-noreply@smo.surveymonkey.com; on behalf of: hawksfund @yahoo.com via surveymonkey.com .
The subject line will say “Hidden Hills Survey.”  We would love your full participation to help make next year even better!

Join us for Street Smarts!

Street Smarts Program will be holding its Walk/Bike Challenge from March 31 to May 2, and our school has been invited to participate! The program challenges students to walk or “roll” (bike, scooter, or skateboard) to school or to the TRAFFIX bus stop as many times as possible during the contest period. Actively commuting to school promotes a healthy lifestyle, reduces air pollution and traffic congestion around schools, and is FUN too! It will also encourage students to practice the safety habits they've learned at Street Smarts assemblies and bike rodeos.

Starting on March 31, students simply log their walking and rolling trips on a secure and safe website:  Walk/Bike Challenge. Each participant will receive a small prize, and there will be a grand prize for the winning classroom! Get ready for the Walk/Bike Challenge! (Note: trips over spring break will not count in the contest.)

SCHOOL NEWS:

Morning Drop Off Safety Concern

We have had a number of parents dropping students off prior to 8:00 am in the morning.  Please remember, we have no supervision before 8:00 am.  Please drop students off no earlier than 8:00 am.  Thank you for your cooperation to ensure your child's safety.

New Standardized Testing: SBAC

In the upcoming weeks, all 3rd-5th Graders will be taking the SBAC (Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium).  There will be no test results reported this year; in it's inaugural year, the state is just "testing the test".  We would like to provide students with the opportunity to DO THEIR BEST.  Our testing window is from 4/22 through 5/16 depending upon the grade level.  Please make sure to take extra care to ensure your students are on time and that are appointments are not scheduled during the testing window.

If you have a 5th grade student, we are asking for you to send your child with a par of earbuds/headphones if at all possible during these weeks.  Please label the headphones clearly and put them in a labeled plastic sandwich sized bag.  Thank you for your support!

Parent Portal Reminder

We have recently been advised by the District for all parents to sign into your Parent Portal account and ensure the information on there is correct, and if you need to update it, to do so as soon as possible.  The District recommendation is to access your account at least 3 times a year, to ensure there are no problems during annual school registration.    To access your Parent Portal account please click here to be directed to the Infinite Campus homepage.  Thank You for your help.

Distinguished School Validation Visit

Last Monday, HH was visited by our Distinguished School validation team guests.  Here is a message sent from the visitors:

We loved our time at Hidden Hills.  There was so much evidence around the school's signature practices embedded throughout the campus.   Additionally, students were bursting with pride and so willing to tell their story about the school!  We were impressed by the high level of commitment for student achievement and success.  Thank you for the warm welcome and for making us feel like part of your community. Everyone was so helpful. Please extend our appreciation for the wonderful breakfast and lunch provided as well.

To receive this award, the California Department of Education will officially announce award recipients in May.  We look forward to the news!

A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU to all of the volunteers who helped to make this auction a great success! Thank you so much for making such a difference in our school.  If you were unable to make it to one of the pick-up times for your online auction item, please contact Deborah Asher to make other arrangements.  Thank you again for helping to support our school!

Congratulations to our wonderful Crossing Guard Kamal Malani!

Kamal Malani has received two very special awards from Hidden Hills this year.  He is HH's Classified Employee of the Year and HH's SRVEF's Shining Star.  As our school crossing guard, Kamal takes pride in his work and has provided great contributions to our school community.  Our HH students look forward to seeing his friendly smile every day.  He has developed positive relationships with our families and our staff through his persistent optimism and unwavering commitment to our school’s safety.  Kamal truly loves his job!  Our staff is honored to nominate Kamal for these awards.  Please congratulate Kamal when you see him!
